Are you tired of battling weight that just won’t budge? If you are exercising and eating right, what is stopping you from shedding the extra kilos? It can be extremely frustrating to put so much effort into losing weight but not getting the results you desire. But what if we tell you that it might not be your workout session or your diet, but rather something you might not even anticipate as the prime reason behind stubborn weight? Your hormones! Believe it or not, your hormones play a crucial role in weight loss, and any sort of hormonal imbalance can sabotage your weight loss plans. In fact, experts recommend getting hormones tested to determine why you’re not losing weight.

Since your hormones are pretty much responsible for doing a crucial role in everything that your body does, any disturbance can make weight loss feel like an uphill battle. From your metabolism to appetite to fat storage, hormones are very important to keep your weight in check. The key is understanding your body’s hormones so you can take charge of your weight loss journey.

Yoga and wellness coach Shivani Bajwa recently took to her Instagram to share some insights into how hormonal imbalance can sabotage your weight loss plans, and the necessary tests you should get done. Here’s a list of hormone tests you should get done if you are not able to lose weight despite constant efforts.

Hormones tests to get to know why you’re not losing weight

Bajwa says there are three hormones called “fat-making hormones” that you should get tested for if you are not losing weight easily. Here are the hormones that you should get tested for:

1. Insulin

One of the primary signs that insulin imbalance is not letting you lose weight is a protruding belly. Studies have found that high levels of insulin in your system make you gain weight around the belly. Getting insulin and fasting glucose tests done will help you get a clear picture of whether or not it is playing a role in making it harder for you to lose weight. The key is to eat the right diet and introduce the right nutrients in your diet, which can help rectify the hormonal imbalance and help you lose weight.

2. Estrogen

Estrogen is the sex hormone that plays a pivotal role in your reproductive system. In fact, any imbalance in this hormone can also sabotage your weight loss plans. Did you know estrogen dominance in your body can lead to weight loss resistance, heavy periods, premenstrual syndrome and even mood swings? Bajwa points out that high levels of estrogen can lead to fat accumulation around your hips and thighs.

3. Cortisol

The third on the list of hormone tests you should get to keep your weight in check is the cortisol test. For the unversed, cortisol is the stress hormone that causes belly fat deposits. One of the primary signs of excess cortisol in your system is a sagging belly. Adrenal fatigue, burnout and excess stress happen when your body is producing too much cortisol, says the expert. Fixing cortisol levels can help you get rid of stubborn belly fat that isn’t budging despite your constant efforts.

Sometimes, it is not that you are not doing enough, but what you are doing might not be the correct approach to weight loss for you. Changing the way you address stubborn weight loss and looking at addressing the underlying hormonal imbalance may be key to getting rid of excess fat.
